For those who would like to know more about poor Felicia's (the grizzly sow) life this is a decent article (regardless of whether you agree with the author's political views).

Re: Felicia's Fate: The Trials of a Grizzly Bear Mom
Jeff, Thank you for posting the article. Very well-written and informative, confirming many of my thoughts and concerns about the long-term situation with the bears (and also the wolves). I give British Columbia some credit for simply outlawing the hunting of grizzly Bears on philosophical grounds of it being immoral to trophy hunt grizzlies. I know there are other opinions and I respect certain aspects of those who think differently (or at least try to). But as a society we need to start moving away from the archaic mentality that all critters are varmints, and it's pleasurable to kill the apex predators.
As the article points out the situation is complex. But I love the idea of bear rangers who volunteer to help manage the situation with roadside bears. I would be willing to help, as I'm able to.
Bill

Re: Felicia's Fate: The Trials of a Grizzly Bear Mom
Thanks for the happy news! We just missed seeing the cub last week as it was wandering near the highway. It still has an uphill battle though, being so small. And Felicia does not seem to be the best mother. When we were watching them in June, Felicia growled and snapped at the cub for no apparent reason. But let's root for the best! Maybe she can learn on the fly.
